Old iPhone 5 Rumours
Apple Rumours: The New iPhone 5 Release Date and Price
If 2011 left you waiting for the iPhone 5, then don’t worry, we predict that 2012 is going to be a good year for you! Some of the designs below look absolutely stunning and knowing Apple, the iPhone 5 is bound to be a stunning performer as well. Even though the iPhone 5 release date wasn't announced at WWDC, rumour has it that it will some time in October 2012. We’ve rounded up some of the more credible rumours to provide you with the all-you-need-to-know guide to the new iPhone on Orange.

iPhone 5 Design
Apple is renowned for its design initiative, and as beautiful as our current Orange iPhones are, they are unlikely to release a third generation in exactly the same style. Some credible leaks recently have pointed to a similarly angular shape, with a flat front and rear like on the iPhone 4S. However, the back case appears in more than one picture to be a two tone aluminium rear casing – a move away from the glass backing on the iPhone 4S.
More excitingly, the iPhone 5 is taller than before, meaning that you can fit more apps on your homescreen without having to flick through endless pages to find the one you want. The screen would now also measure 4 inches across (rather than the 3.5 inches of the current iPhone 4S). This taller screen means that you wouldn’t have to put up with black bars at the top and bottom of your screen when you want to watch movies in widescreen. Games would also fit to this new aspect; giving you more room to have fun with the latest downloads from the App Store.
iPhone 5 Camera
After the hugely improved camera on the iPhone 4S you might be wondering how on earth Apple can make an even better one, but it seems they might just have been able to do exactly that! They might make the front facing camera fully HD (used for the FaceTime video calling technology) which would improve Skype calls as well.
Seeing as Sony make Apple’s cameras, and they recently showcased some very impressive high dynamic range (HDR) video camera sensors working on a phone, it is possible that the iPhone 5 will allow you to create stunningly rich videos and photos. If not, at the very least it will still support Instagram integration and probably improve its own built-in photo and video editing software. Plus, we can always hope for improved photo sharing through Facebook and Twitter apps so you can get your snaps and clips online and with your friends as soon as possible.
iOS 6
Apple has already given a release date for their newest and flashiest operating system, and it promises to bring huge benefits to Orange iPhone 5 users. Facebook integration has been improved hugely, as it's now built in to the phone, rather than being an app you have to download separately. It’s also integrated into the App Store meaning friends can recommend apps through facebook and you can see what everyone else is using and what is popular. This should be really useful in making managing your social life easier.
On a more practical level, it also heralds much better mapping and location services. Combined with updates to their voice control software (Siri) this should make finding a good coffee shop just that bit easier!
iPhone 5 - What's Under the Hood
Seeing that the new iPad has the Apple A5X processor, it is more than likely that the iPhone 5 will also sport this new, faster kit. Even so, it’s still possible that Apple might unveil a quad-core A6 chip to rival some of other chips on the market. Either way, they're a company famed for getting the most out of what they use, so expect this new iPhone on Orange to be pretty speedy, whether you’re surfing the web or gaming.
UK iPhone 5 Release Date
The question we all want to know the answer to is: "What is the iPhone 5 UK release date?" Asian sources have supposedly said that it will launch in either late September or October 2012, in line with Apple's traditional Autumn release schedule. However the fact that no release date was given at Apple World Wide Developer Conference might mean the iPhone 5 release date in the UK is more likely to be in October rather than September. We hope to bring you the iPhone 5 on Orange as soon as possible. As for the iPhone 5 price in the UK, it's likely that it will simply replace the current 4S at the same price points, although a rumoured 128GB would outstrip even the most expensive current iPhone.
So, to summarise...
Realistic iPhone 5 Rumours
- Faster processor and graphics
- New slimmer and longer design
- New 4 inch screen with 16:9 widescreen
- Metal back casing
- HDR video
- Contactless payments
The Exciting But Unlikely Stuff
- 4G support for the UK
- iPhone exclusive social platform
- Waterproofing inside
REMEMBER
Apple tend to throw some curveballs – keep an eye out for the exotically named LiquidMetal that they might use to make a smooth flowing teardrop case rather than the rectangular shape shown in some of the leaked pictures above.
Whatever shape the iPhone 5 takes we can guarantee it will be one of the most exciting smartphones of the year. Register for updates on how to buy the new iPhone when it releases later this year!
